Millen Downtown Development Authority

MILLEN DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY

The Millen Downtown Development Authority was activated by Millen City Council in 2003.  The Authority’s mission is to revitalize and develop the downtown business district of Millen.

To carry out this mission, the seven member board concentrates on:

  • business recruitment,
  • business retention and assistance, and
  • property development

To assist businesses, the Authority offers facade improvement grants of $500 to a business that spends at least $1000 on facade improvements.  Since 2003 the Authority has awarded 7 (seven) of these grants.

Through the DDA, businesses can get the DDRLF (Downtown Development Revolving Loan Fund) and Georgia Cities Foundation loans at 3% interest.  Each source offers funding up to $250,000, making a total of $500,000 in loans at a low interest rate available to elgible businesses.

Ohter achievements inlude:

  • The purchase and renovation of two (2) buildings which are currently leased to small businesses.
  • Working with downtown businesses to improve outdoor facades to improve the tenant base in the downtown area.  As the visual appeal increases, the downtown district will attract and retain a higher quality occupant base, giving the Millen downtown a stronger business mix.
