Early in the 20th century, the town of Millen, which was located in then Screven County, began to develop industrially, and a group of citizens organized The Millen News Publishing Company in July 1903 for the purpose of giving the citizens a voice through which to express their concerns.
Those citizens petitioning the Superior Court of Screven County for incorporation of the company were Alfred Herrington, R.G. Daniel, T.Z. Daniel, A.S. Anderson, J.M. Edenfield, John L. Gay, Mrs. Emma Lane Patterson, J.C. Reddick, J.C. Parker, Dr. H.A. Jones, Dr. L.J. Belt, Dr. H.Q. Bell, C. Parker Company and Daniel Sons & Palmer Company.
